Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups Aproten Fusilli (or your favorite shape)
  • 4 cups Vegetable oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt Add to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon Seasoning Add what you like: malt vinegar, Molly McButter (for low pro Cheetos), cinnamon sugar, chipotle popcorn seasoning

Method

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a rapid boil. Add 1 tablespoon of salt and the pasta. Cook for 7 minutes. Drain.
  2. Line a baking sheet or work space with paper towels. Place pasta on top and pat dry.
  3. Preheat vegetable oil to 375 degrees. Divide cooked pasta into two batches. Add one batch and fry for three to four minutes. It should be nice and crunchy. Taste one — too chewy? Fry for another minute or so.
  4. Remove pasta, and place on a clean paper towel to absorb some of the grease. Season as you like.

Notes

Reader Q&A:
Q: Can you do them in an air fryer? A: I have not tried. If I were to try it, I would toss the cooked pasta in olive oil and salt (and other seasonings if desired like vegan parm and garlic ), and air fry at 400 for 6 mins, toss and then another 4 to 6 minutes. You might need to do batches. — Brenda
